Sugarlips Cakes is a bakery in The Netherlands which makes the most amazing cakes for weddings, events en parties. The owner Tam Trinh, reached out to me and asked me to make some paintings for the new shop. I don't often paint cakes but I immediately loved the commission because I'm totally in love with their cake designs and I like to get out of my comfort zone.
I thought it would be nice to show you a few pictures of the drawing process. Of course I started out with a simple pencil sketch...
Then comes the coloring. I used my regular Winsor and Newton watercolors. The paper is still wet here as you can see. That's why it looks a but uneven. This effect disappears as soon as the paper dries.
When the minty green tone of the cake's frosting was done, I continued with the details like the disco dip, and this was the final result. It's framed and hanging on the wall in the Sugarlips Cakes studio!
Love,
Anna
